Kelantan who took on, and beat, second-placed Selangor earlier in the middle of the week, played league leaders JDT away just now.

Finally making his first start in the 2014 season was JDT keeper Al-Hafiz Hamzah, as first choice Izham Tarmizi was dropped following poor performance in their 2-1 loss to ATM on Tuesday. Coincidentally, it was against Kelantan that Al-Hafiz last made his start, in the 2013 Malaysia Cup. JDT started with Luciano Figueroa, Nurshahrul Idlan, Safiq Rahim, Amirulhadi Zainal and Mahali Jasuli.

Kelantan meanwhile started with Forkey Doe, Brendan Gan, Fakri Saarani, Mohamed Shawky and Khairul Fahmi. Iraqi defender Hussein Alaa started in place of Farisham Ismail who suffered a broken nose in their bruising 2-0 win against Selangor.

In the 8th minute, Luciano Figueroa looked to have been fouled by Kelantan's defender Husin Alyaa in the penalty box. Replay showed that there was minimal contact when Husin made the tackle, but the referee was having none of it.

The first goal came in the 26th minute when JDT skipper Safiq Rahim released Amirulhadi with a through pass, who then slotted the ball past Fahmi.

Fakri almost found an instant equaliser for Kelantan just a minute later, but his effort went over the bar.

Safiq then was booked for simulation by the ref, trying to win a penalty.

The home side added their second in the 52nd minute, following a great pass from Nurshahrul from the right. The pass was met by an attempt by Figueroa, but after it was blocked, Kelantan-born Nazrin Nawi was there to put the ball behind the net.

Before the final whistle, Nazrin turned provider by sending in a low cross form the left, which Figueroa put into the net with a simple tap in.

After the final whistle, JDT are still on top regardless of Selangor's result on Saturday night. After this they will be playing away to Sarawak, in what would undeniably be a difficult fixture for them.
